Colleagues, friends and allies! We offer you the unique opportunity to become part of the Side by Side LGBTQ+ Film Festival and organise a film screening in your hometown! We can help you bring like-minded people together, challenge myths about the LGBTQ+ community and in general queer culture.

We aim to create a space for rethinking and breaking down stereotypes about the LGBTQ+ community, to tell authentic stories about LGBTQ+ persons and to build dialogue in the public space about the situation of the LGBTQ+ community in different countries.

We want to unite Russian speaking persons and those who have been forced to leave their homes. We are all in a state of uncertainty and increased isolation making it even more important to come together.

Take part in this unique opportunity and make change in your communit wherever you are in the world!

About the Project

The films have won many awards, including at the Side by Side LGBTQ+ Film Festival in the categories of Best Documentary and Audience Award. A wide range of issues are covered including - rights of LGBTQ+ communities in different countries, gender identity and sexuality, the history of the LGBTQ+ movement, feminism and more.

Where have events already been organised?

LGBTQ Cinema in Your Hometown is one of our most successful projects. We have already organised more than 40 film screenings around the world, including Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Sakartvelo, Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Argentina, Germany, Portugal.

Who can participate?

LGBTQ+ organisations and initiatives, human rights-, social-, cultural- and educational- organisations, film festivals, film clubs and activists.

When organising an event, what are the important considerations?

Films: Our catalogue includes 38 documentaries. Choose a film most relevant to your audience. Each description of the film indicates topics covered.

Follow Up Interactive: After the film screening people want to talk and share their thoughts and a mandatory interactive event is required. This can be a discussion with guests, open floor with the audience, a talk by an expert or a lecture - decide which variant is most appropriate.

Audience: The film screening should be for at least 15 people. We have no restrictions on the maximum number of spectators.

My application is successful. What happens next?

You will be able to hold a film screening without copyright violations. We will send you a film file with Russian subtitles prepared by the Side by Side team. In addition, we will send you media files for advertising and information support.

Our team will be in touch with the organisers during the preparation of the event.

This project does not offer financial support from the Side by Side LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

When can I apply and how long does the application process take?

You can submit your application at any time, but with at least 4 weeks before the planned screening.

If you are planning a series of screenings and we have not worked with you before, we suggest that you start with one screening first.

We consider all applications, regardless of your location.

The organising committee of the Side by Side is always available to advise you. However, the purpose of this project is to support independent endeavours. We expect that an organisation or group interested in hosting a film screening will be willing to take partial responsibility for a wide variety of issues related to the screening.

Organise an event now and help make a difference in the community! Queer culture with us and bring more tolerance and diversity to your hometown!
